‘The Blood Street’ manages to enthuse sense of pride in youth
It seems that the era of comedy has lost its pace in Punjabi cinema and now taken over by the action flicks that are surrounded by the reality and atrocities faced by people in 80s and 90s. Whether they are able to impress people or not. The newly released film ‘The Blood Street’ is the story of 92 and 93 and no doubt is able to attract the audience to the multiplexes. Though the film faced tough time passing before the censor board but still managed to mark its place in 56 International film festivals before its release.
The film that is produced by Canada-based Jasbir Singh Bopara under the banner of Harjee Movies is written and directed by Darshan Darvesh.
The film depicts the emotions and feelings of minority community of the country. It deals with the tale of people who sustained atrocities committed by police taking advantage of the black laws of the day which reduced Punjab to mere a police state where the gun totting cops had a license to kill, exercising all powers and owning no responsibilities, democracy had taken the back seat. Most of the people were rendered refugees in their own homeland. The film shows the plight of a mother who had lost her husband who was major in the army and a son who is about to complete his college.  It enthuse a sense of pride, self esteem and dignity among the youth and inculcate zest to rise against tyranny.
Though film is wonderfully treated but it could have been better if certain scenes were not edited by the censor board due to which it lacks its path and confuse the audience.
The director did not even mind mentioning about the renowned  theater artist Gurusharan Singh who through his plays visited all the  areas of Punjab awakening people about one or the other reality.  He even put the army under the scanner by showing that they did not try to dig out the truth of his major who had been declared dead as he was found cheating his nation .
The role of protagonist played by Sonpreet Jawandha and his counterpart Binny Singh, KNS Sekhon as major along with Mahabir Bhullar, Karamjit Brar, Jasbir Singh, Boparai, Kul Sidhu, Kullu Panesar, Gurmeet Brar, Satwinder Kaur, Harjeet Bhullr, Roopan Khangura, Narinder Dhillon, Semi Mansa, Satish Thukral, Kulwant  Khatra, Darshan Bawa, Sukhwinder Raj, Jass Longowal, Abhijit Jattana, Naginder Gakhar, Inderjit Sujapur, Parminder Gill, Charanjit Sandhu, Damanpreet, and Sant Baljit Singh Daduwal surely leave their impact on the audience with their powerful performance. Above all Sardar Sohi as the villain was able to put fear in the mind of people.
About this film we can say ‘full paisa vasool’ and can expect such movies from the production house in future as well.
