International Women’s Day : Pledge for Parity with Deepa Mantri
Deepa Mantri, born and brought up in Hindu Colony, Dadar, Mumbai. She did her schooling form King George School, Dadar and took admission for Applied Arts, Raheja College for the course of Calligraphy. She got married during college days and her husband was against job. Hence, it was decided to do own business and she started her full fledge Arts graphics studio `Alfa’. However, afterwards, due to severe health issues, she was almost bed ridden for 3 years. Post surgery, she closed the studio and became member of Maharashtra Vyapari (Traders) Peth for two and half months. She took stall and created her own `Saheli Creations’ garment business and eventually purchased garment factory also. Deepa joined Shivsena and became Sub Area Chief(Up Vibhag Pramukh) of South Central Mumbai as well as Women cell of Shivsena. She worked on Mahila Dakshata Samiti (Women Surveillance Cell). She has worked on more than 150 self help groups for women and was conferred upon by the State Government the most prestigious award `Mahapaur (Mayor) Award in 2006.
