Surkhaab to release on May 22
After creating a buzz all over the world film ‘Surkhaab’ is all set to release in the country. According to the producer Vivek Kumar the title refers to bird that is normally found in Punjab but on feeling threatened they migrate towards European as well as American countries. He along with the lead actor Barkha Madan was in Chandigarh to promote his film.Talking about the film Kumar mentioned that ‘Surkhaab’ is a thriller drama but it is not a dark film. It is an intriguing journey of a women who gets swamped with unexpected events, when she illegally migrates to Canada to be with her younger brother. “The movie explores underlying themes of globalization, cross immigration and women empowerment. It begins with a story of Jeet played Barkha who is a state level judo champ living in Punjab. In spite of hailing from a strong army background she is unable to find a stable job and decides to run away to Canada to find the one. What follows is her inspiring journey to make a life for herself, protect herself and her family. It also show her dealing with several unforeseen circumstances, in her run across the new country,” he explained and added, “The audience will be able to relate to the story of an underdog who emerges triumphant against all odds.”
The film is written and directed by Sanjay Talreja. It also stars Sumit Suri, Vinita Malik and Naresh Gosain in supporting roles.
The film has been shot across Chandigarh and Toronto.
It has already been appreciated in various international festivals including Madrid International Film Festival and Commfest Festival
in Toronto to name a few. It is also a winner of prestigious award for the Best Foreign Language Film at the London International Film
Festival 2013.
