Pollywood cinema is far behind others : Harbhajan Mann

Famous singer-actor Harbhajan Mann feels that cinema is one of the most powerful medium to present the reality though Pollywood still lacks behind in comparison to other regional cinema. He along with his team -Director Amitoj Mann and Sumeet Singh, MD, Unisys Infosolutions, was present at Fun Republic, Manimajra to launch the trailer of his film ‘Gadaar – The Traitor’.
He plays a role of Jai who is a billionaire but one conspiracy changes his life. Slated to release on May 29 the film is first suspense-emotional thriller in Punjabi.
During the chitchat with Pollywoodboxoffice.com Harabhajan said, “This is the most challenging character I had portrayed so far. My fans have till now seen me in soft romantic roles but here they will see me doing action sequence. Action genre is totally new to me but I enjoyed the process. Now I can finally say that I am an actor now.”
Talking about his love for Punjabi cinema he affirmed, “It’s like a plant that I have nourished with my blood. I had a tough time seeing it go down,” and added, “Few years back I said that the audience who had returned to cinema to watch Punjabi movies will back out if not offered with good scripts. At that time everyone criticised me, but look today we have many Punjabi films that are a no-show.”
Harbhajan would be launching his single track ‘Husan Di Kali’ in this week, followed with the film titled ‘Sadde CM Saab’. He is also working to launch his another album ‘Satrangi Peengh 3’ along with brother Gursewak Mann by year end. He has also lended his voice in this film.
Speaking about the film Amitoj Mann said, “We promise that our characters will live with you even after you have laughed and cried with them in the hall and walked out. It presents real Punjab and you will see the actual culture, language and locales of the state,” and added, “Though it is a fiction film written by me but few of the characters are real.”
About the distribution of the film Sumeet stated that this is first time in Punjabi industry that any film is being promoted six months before its release and they are aiming at a worldwide release with newer marketing strategies. They have already toured Malaysia, promoting the film with a live concert with Harbhajan Mann and have plans to introduce this film to countries like Austria, Spain, Pakistan, Philipines and Hong Kong.
It’s the second time that Amitoj and Harbhajan have come together after ‘Haani’. “Our movie went unnoticed here but did well in the overseas market and we don’t want this to happen again,” Amitoj affirmed.
Shot in beautiful locales of Toronto, Goa, Mumbai and Punjab, the film shows the journey of Jai who wants to get rid off the tag ‘traitor’. It also stars Bollywood actor Evelyn and Miss Australia Punjaban Pageant winner Manpneet Grewal among others.
The trailer seems to keep one on the edge as it gives the feeling of Bollywood thriller.
