How Amitabh Bachchan’s reassurance gave hope to ‘Doomed’ Shahenshah Director as star recovers from life-threatening injury.

Amitabh assured him that he would complete the film after several tense months.

Actor-director Tinnu Anand says Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Coolie’ He recalled the financial crisis he found himself in after sustaining a serious injury on set. As a result, Tinnu’s film ‘Shahenshah’ was delayed significantly.

In an interview, he said that creditors came knocking on his door but Amitabh assured him that he would complete the film after several tense months.

Recalling the difficulties of making the film, Tinnu said, “Amitabh fell ill and announced that he would no longer work in films.

He went to Breach Candy Hospital for an indefinite period of time. After this accident he felt very, very sick.

He continued, “But slowly, slowly Amitabh came back… His brother said to me, ‘Tinnu, don’t worry, we are aware about your condition.’ But if my father (my brother) comes
back, completes the two unfinished films, and then I can continue working, your film will be the first film we make.

So there was a ray of hope from his brother Bunty. When Amitabh pushes his plate away and says that it is unfair for him to eat and that it is unfair for Tinnu to remain hungry, Tinu says: Let’s go: A rich man like you was eating something.

A poor man who had not eaten for many days came to him and asked for something to eat. Your hunger will disappear and all my problems will disappear.” Tinnu said that Amitabh understood what he meant.

Said that he promised to finish the film even if he had to work slower than before.

Released in 1988, the film was a box office success and is still remembered for its oft-quoted line: “Rishte mein toh hum tumhare baap hote hain, naam hai Shahenshah”
