Bollywood singers turned flop actor

The Bollywood industry had a lot of singers making their way to stardom with their first movie. But unfortunately many of the debutants have failed miserably to make their presence felt with their first movie. The success rate of movies in bollywood depends highly on the story, music and acting skills of actors performing their specific roles.

Charting new territories, conquering new grounds – isn’t that what an exciting life is all about? At least that’s what these 8 singers were thinking when they decided to give a new direction to their career and venture into acting. Putting it mildly, the big bang all of them were hoping for turned out to be a major floppy fizz.

1. Sonu Nigam

To be honest, Sonu Nigam started out as a child actor – playing bit roles in Bollywood movies in the early 80s. However, everything was forgotten – and he completely started out afresh when he began singing some of the most melodious tunes in the late 90s and thereafter. And then came ‘Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani’ in 2002. The lesser said, the better.

2. Lucky Ali

Another young actor, Lucky Ali appeared in a number of films in the 70s. However, our earliest recollections of this guy were his amazing music albums with his soulful voice bringing each and every song to life. He stepped into Bollywood as an actor with ‘Sur’ (2002), and ‘Kaante’ the same year. While these two movies were average, the next couple of films he starred in were absolute nonentities.

3. Abhijeet Sawant

The first Indian Idol winner, Abhijeet Sawant became a household name in 2005. But it was a short-lived fame for him – and he was probably clutching at straws when he starred as the lead in the forgettable 2008 film ‘Lottery’.

4. Aditya Narayan

When Aditya Narayan followed in his father’s footsteps and became a singer, it was all well and good. Given his good looks and boyish charm, Vikram Bhatt signed him up for his 2010 horror flick ‘Shaapit’. The boy even snagged a Best Male Debut nomination at the Zee Cine Awards. However, his effect on the audiences and the rest of the Bollywood fraternity was as forgetful as the movie itself – and he has not been seen in any more movies after that.

5. Himesh Reshammiya

In the next Golden Kela Awards, we are sure Himesh Reshammiya will take away the ‘Why Are You Still Trying’ Award. He does not seem to realize that all his popularity stems from his nasal singing skills – and not his acting performance. He lost his hats, grew hair, straightened it, lost some weight, put on newer hats – and continues to make films through it all. From ‘Aap Kaa Surroor – The Real Luv Story’ to ‘The Xpose’, the man continues to hammer on.

6. Yo Yo Honey Singh

The latest entrant to this club is Yo Yo Honey Singh – played supposedly Pran-like negative role in the ‘The Xpose’. Himesh Reshamiya and Yo Yo Honey Singh were working together for the first time. The movie was a big flop on box office.
