Environment and Social Justice Commission of India Announces Punjab Chapter, Unveils 2026–27 Roadmap
Focus on Flood Management, Groundwater Conservation, Pollution Control and Environmental Protection
Chandigarh, August 5: The Environment and Social Justice Commission of India on Wednesday announced the formation of its Punjab Chapter in Chandigarh and unveiled its roadmap for 2026–27.
Reaffirming its commitment to building a cleaner, healthier and climate-resilient Punjab, the Commission said it would integrate environmental protection with social justice to ensure sustainable development.
National Treasurer Anil Arora administered the oath to Manish Mahajan, Chairman of the Punjab Chapter, and Shubh Goyal, District Coordinator for Fatehgarh Sahib.
The ceremony was attended by Gajendra Phogat, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Haryana Chief Minister, as the Guest of Honour.
Ekta Nagpal, Secretary, Punjab BJP, also addressed the gathering, urging the Commission to work with dedication towards environmental conservation and social justice.
The event began with the national song.
Addressing the gathering, National President Ritik Arora outlined the Commission’s vision, stating that a strong statewide network of volunteers
and experts would be developed to respond effectively to climate change and natural disasters, particularly floods.
He said the Commission’s teams would work closely with the administration and local communities to support relief, rehabilitation and environmental protection during emergencies.
Arora added that pollution control in industrial areas would remain one of the Commission’s top priorities. Awareness campaigns, expert consultations and community-driven initiatives would be undertaken to promote sustainable environmental practices.
The Commission’s 2026–27 agenda includes reducing air pollution, conserving groundwater, strengthening flood management, promoting rainwater harvesting,
protecting the environment, encouraging sustainable development and enhancing social justice through community participation.
The newly appointed office-bearers of the Punjab Chapter were also introduced during the event.
The Commission reiterated that its mission is to ensure sustainable development for present and future generations by advancing environmental conservation alongside social justice.
Ritik Arora emphasized that the Commission is committed to environmental protection, with special focus on tree plantation drives and water conservation initiatives across Punjab.
