Tell us about the salient features of Canada Di Flight and How is it going to be different from others?

For the first time, I am playing lead and positive role in this movie. At personal level, I have exerted immense efforts to bring wide variation in the character. I always like to deliver challenging roles. The story is based upon the existing and ongoing trend of Punjabi youth migrating to Canada but we tried to make it more interesting. Thanks to Rupesh Rai Sikand who put extra efforts on my character to show it in a different light. In fact, this is the long awaited movie, due to some technical issues it got delayed. Hence, we have larger expectations and excitement from the movie.

(Shakku Rana has set very high high expectation from his fan-followers after splendid performance in ‘Patta Patta Singhan Da Vairi’).

How was your entry into the film industry?

– Well, I have always been aspired to be an actor since my childhood. Once I was at Chandigarh and fortunately there itself was the casting going on for Mail Kara De Rabba. So I’d sent my clips to Mandeep Kumar who happened to like them. That’s how I got breakthrough.

Who are your favortie actors?

-My favourite actors are Ajay Devgan for his intense roles and facial expressions and Irfan Khan for his freestyle and relaxed delivery of dialouges. Both play their charaters wonderfully.

Have you ever ventured into any Hindi movies?

-Yes, I have signed a hindi movie named Khame Azar: Journey of a Common Man. This is going to be my debut in hindi cinema and I hope to give it my best take.

Who do you wish to work with in Bollywoood?

-I would like to do a Mohit Suri movie. His movies have characters that I feel suit my personality as an actor. They will be challenging but well, I like challenges. I would also like to work with Ajay Devgan firstly, then Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan…..

You were highly appreciated for Patta Patta Singhan Da Vairi. Tell us how working it has helped you.

-In Patta Patta Singhan Da Vairi, I was the only character that speaks Hindi, rest all in Punjabi. Secondly, it was the first time I was asked to play a cop in the movie. Both these things helped me land my hindi debut.

What difference do you find in regional cinema like Punjabi and Bollywood?

-There was a time when Punjabi cinema had completely deserted and the reason was budget. That’s the difference. Since Bollywood is an international market, they can generate high revenue and film better. Limited regional films get selected for release and from these limited, few films work well.

Has Punjabi cinema grown since the last ten years?

-Absolutely. Punjabi films are now released overseas too. Some movies have worked so well that the cinema has come into limelight. With companies like TIPS investing into movies has brought more modernism and branding to the Punjabi industry. Better star cast, new ways of executing a previously shut down production are all the signs of growth.

What is the success mantra for films in your view?

-For me it is content, the director, and most importantly the execution through fitting star cast for the particular film.

Apart from acting, what do you do in your pastime? Any hobbies?

-I like playing cricket. I was a fast bowler earlier and had played for college and even Punjab once.

What message do you have for aspiring actors?

I’d just like to offer one piece of advice that is, to work hard and keep making persistent efforts towards your goal. It’s going to involve a lot of hard-work and a lot of setbacks too. But, due to the fear of failure, never give up. Identify your likelihood, the roles you can execute the best and keep working hard, that’s all you’ll need to rise high.
