Athiya shakes a leg to Papa Suneil’s songs on DID 5
They’re young, hot and happening. But they’re just as down-to-earth, warm and easygoing! The stars of the Salman Khan-produced film ‘Hero’ – Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty won the hearts of the judges and contestants alike with their mischievous ways and spirit of camaraderie when they visited the sets of India’s biggest dance reality show – Dance India Dance Season 5.
Right at the outset, Athiya announced that she’s come only to watch her favorite dancer on the show – 20 year old Pune boy Vicky Alhat whose sense of comic timing and natural, effortless dancing she admires. Sooraj, on the other hand, looked spell-bound by Mumbai girl Anuradha from Mudassar Ki Mandli, who despite injuries presented a very sensuous dance to the song Ang Laga De from Ram Leela. Even as judges lauded Anuradha for her ‘Never Say Die’ spirit and Athiya called her a superwoman for performing so beautifully despite pain, Sooraj went up on stage, waltzed with Anuradha and lifted her in a swift maneuver, just the way you see him lift Athiya in the film’s promos. Anuradha went weak in her knees when Sooraj told her that it was a pleasure lifting her as against Athiya who he claimed, weighs as much as him. Seeing Athiya turn a beetroot red, he went one step further and added, “I wish I had a beautiful heroine like you, Anuradha.” Warning Sooraj about the consequences he’ll have to face post the DID shoot for all that he’s said about her, Athiya added, “I’m glad for Sooraj if he’s found his heroine. As for me, I’ve found my hero in Vicky Alhat, he’s so cute when he moves. His act today was delightful to say the least.” Post Vicky’s performance, Athiya went up to shake a leg with him but Vicky was very shy and awkward. Show host Jay Bhanushali stole the opportunity to demonstrate how he should confidently dance with the beauty and kissed Athiya on her hand. Mithun Da said, “You’re dead, Jay. Anna’s (Suneil Shetty) watching!” to which Jay quipped, “I’m dead even before that, Dada. My wife is watching the episode too.”
One of the star highlights of the show was when Athiya at Jay’s behest, came up on stage and danced to some of her father’s most popular chartbusters with judges Mudassar and Punit. Their lively performance to Suneil Shetty’s medley of hits had the audience rooting for an encore. Even as Athiya and Sooraj kept bickering and teasing each other throughout, an impressive act that had both of them stunned speechless was Master Punit’s hip hop interpretation of Lord Krishna’s naughty ways – an act performed to excellence by Assam boy Pankaj Thapa.
