With critically acclaimed performances in Angrej, Ardaas, and Bambukat, Ammy Virk has established himself as one of the most versatile actors in Punjabi cinema. His blockbuster hits like Nikka Zaildar and Saab Bahadar have made him the man of the moment in Pollywood.
In this exclusive conversation with Pollywood Box Office, Ammy Virk opens up about his early life, family, career choices, and future dreams.
Early Life and Education
Pollywood Box Office: Where were you born and where did you pursue your education?
Ammy Virk: I belong to Nabha district in Punjab. I completed my B.Sc. in Biotechnology from Mohali, Chandigarh. While I could have chosen a career in medicine, my passion for acting and singing was far stronger. That’s why I decided to follow my dreams.
Family and Personal Bonds
Pollywood Box Office: Tell us something about your family. Who are you closest to?
Ammy Virk: I am the youngest in my family after a brother and a sister. My parents and grandparents are very loving and down-to-earth. Honestly, I am close to everyone in the family — they are my backbone.
Relationship Status
Pollywood Box Office: You have a huge female fan following. Everyone wants to know — are you single?
Ammy Virk: (Smiling) Yes, I am single right now. Whenever something happens, I’ll share it openly.
Career Choices and Film Genres
Pollywood Box Office: After the success of Bambukat and Angrej, do you prefer niche roles or commercial cinema?
Ammy Virk: I don’t restrict myself to any one genre. Be it grey humor, action, or biopics — I love experimenting. I’d even take up roles like an army officer or a hockey player. My goal is to be a versatile actor.
Struggles and Breakthrough
Pollywood Box Office: You’re the first big actor from your family without industry contacts. Did you have to audition?
Ammy Virk: Surprisingly, I never went for auditions — neither for singing nor for acting. But I respect those who do. Many of them are real talents and gems.
Singing vs Acting
Pollywood Box Office: What do you enjoy more — singing or acting?
Ammy Virk: Both! I often sing for the films I act in. It balances perfectly.
Music as a Gift
Pollywood Box Office: Where did you learn singing?
Ammy Virk: I never learned it formally. Singing is truly a god’s gift for me.
Future Aspirations
Pollywood Box Office: Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Ammy Virk: I see myself in Bollywood. I want to grow step by step and make my mark nationally.
Dream Collaborations
Pollywood Box Office: Which Bollywood stars and directors would you like to work with?
Ammy Virk: I’d love to work with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Katrina Kaif. As for directors, Sanjay Leela Bhansali Ji is my dream collaborator. His vision is beyond words. My favorite film is Namastey London.
Views on Pollywood and Gender Representation
Pollywood Box Office: Punjabi cinema is often male-dominated. Do you agree?
Ammy Virk: Yes, to some extent. Pollywood is still growing. Since many singers turn actors, they already have a strong fan base. But when it comes to female-centric films, we have room to grow. There are many talented actresses in the industry, but we need more stories that revolve around them.
Ammy Virk signs off with his trademark smile, promising fans that he will continue experimenting and delivering memorable performances. From chartbuster songs to box office hits, his journey is just getting started.
