“After 400 auditions, Vicky was finalised for Zubaan”

Says filmmaker Mozez Singh about his discovery, Vicky Kaushal, who’s garnering praises for his latest release, Masaan. Director Neeraj Ghaywan’s latest release, Masaan starring Richa Chaddha and Vicky Kaushal has received warm response and encouraging feedback from Bollywood denizens and trade pundits. Both Vicky and Richa who have been paired opposite for the first time in the award winning and internationally-lauded film Masaan have also been applauded for their stupendous performances.

In fact, few acclaimed critics while praising Vicky and the movie has mentioned about the talented actor being ‘Find of the year’. Not many are aware that Vicky was initially signed by debutant director Mozez Singh for his coming-of-age musical Zubaan and that the young actor is his discovery.

A telecommunications engineering student, Vicky always nurtured the dream of becoming an actor and after complete his studies he assisted Anurag Kashyap on The Gangs Of Wasseypur series, and then landed his first starring role in a short film, Geek Out. The shorts producer Guneet Monga (of The Lunchbox fame) showed it to Mozez, who was on the lookout for the next big thing to star in Zubaan that will re-define the genre in India. Equipped with charisma, amazing screen presence and a killer audition, Vicky bagged the role in Zubaan.

Talking about his find says Mozez Singh, “For months on end, I had tested hundreds of guys and was dissatisfied with all of them. But from the moment Vicky came in to test, he blew me away. He was brilliant. Intense, soulful and completely playful at the same time. I gave him toughest lines for the audition and was quite surprised with the way he enacted those scenes. I saw a startling versatility in him. I can’t thank Guneet enough for bringing Vicky into my world”.
Son of veteran action director Sham Kaushal, Vicky will be launched this year in Sikhya Entertainment’s & Metamozez Entertainment’s Zubaan, directed by Mozez Singh.
